About SOAP Fest

The Sandbox One-Act Play Festival is the culmination of an annual nine-month creative process. SOAP Fest is an Actors' Equity Association Members' Project, conceived in 2012 by Sandboxer Amy Love*. She is also a member of Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York, by which this project is greatly inspired. Amy serves as the SOAP Fest Coordinator and is joined by fellow Sandboxers Liza Comtois as Production Manager and Kate Kraay as Literary Manager.

In September, the call is put out to the 115-plus-member-strong Sandbox Artists Collective, to write a fully realized one-act play and submit it anonymously by December 1. By mid-January, a lineup of new plays is announced and the identity of the playwrights revealed. Writers and directors team up and set about finding their actors.

But what about a technical director and scenic designer, a set builder, a sound designer, a lighting designer, a props manager, a production stage manager, assistant stage managers, or an assistant director? Not to be outshined, the SOAP Fest company includes a crackerjack production team.

As we venture forward at the Sandbox One-Act Play Festival, the future looks bright. We are excited to be able to offer a workshop atmosphere, where playwrights can continue to develop their scripts with a team of artists at their side. In June, their creative efforts come to fruition as a new crop of plays is unveiled to an audience. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to see the final outcome of an almost year-round adventure!
